‘Drifting Lives’ four-minute video-project consists of sequential fragments of images-videos-emails that form a narration. It tells the story of two architect, a couple from Greece working abroad, living apart, working long-distance, leading drifting lives according to their contracts at work. The storytelling video ‘Drifting Lives’ is itself OUR (the creators’) lives narration through the collection of arbitrary everyday iconic images in a symbolic sequence.
According to Benjamin ‘The Storyteller’ defines the art of storytelling, as a story is not mere information or a report. “It [the story] sinks the thing into the life of the storyteller (…). Thus traces of the storyteller cling to the story the way the hand-prints of the potter cling to the clay vessel.” ‘Drifting Lives’ sinks into our everyday, real and virtual, to bring it out in three iconic sequences, for HIM: hometown in Greece (home), his transit stop Athens and life in Lagos, Nigeria (work); for HER: the everyday (home), in-between life in Athens and a dream-scape of a women’s school in Jeddah, KSA (work), for which she works long-distance. The two characters perceive the work-live separated duality differently: he works abroad and misses home; she lives at home while working abroad.

Alex Fragkiadakis (GR)
Alex Fragkiadakis is an architect (Greece, UK) who has received his Diploma in Architectural Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece and his Master of Architecture from the University of California Los Angeles, USA. He has worked as a freelance architect at his practice that emphasizes on projects that explore the environmental, structural and atmospheric potential of emerging design and digital manufacturing techniques. He has been working as a project manager in various projects in Africa and firmly believes that architecture can make a difference in the world.
Katerina Zisimopoulou (GR)
Katerina Zisimopoulou is a practicing architect and researcher in Greece. She has received her Diploma in Architectural Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, her Master of Architecture from the University of California, Los Angeles, USA; she is currently a doctorate candidate at the National Technical University of Athens, where she has also lectured. She has participated in groups that distinguished in architectural competitions and enjoys presenting her research at conferences, organizing architectural workshops and events that bring architects, theorists and together. She currently writes about architecture in film and believes that participatory design can heal societies in crisis.
